your work is always challenging. i am happy to see you are a bit more often here with us.
and i will say again that i enjoy the background you allways give. finds it great. it is shame that less do it (including myself) – i guess it is (at least in my case) not enough awareness of the writing process and direction.

i have always thought i like the winter more than the summer, until i realized that there is no real winter in israel. no snow. no real cold. barely a rain. more like a golden autumn (but warmer) in europe.

just back to munich now after two month in sunshine israel. not sure why and what but looking forward for that new adventure.

Thanks, “poetry!” I’m a native English speaker, studied Spanish in school and have done a bit of traveling in Latin America. It’s not my native language. How about you? I see you’ve written about Mexico, about Chile, about Tarija. Where are you from? You have me intrigued.

Everyone, thank you so much for stopping in! As some of you already know, I’m working on a Ph.D. since last fall, and the workload has become increasingly intense as time wears on. I’ve been doing lots of writing, just not nearly enough of the kind I’d like. I’ll still be back to check on you though every few weeks (or maybe, sadly, months), and to leave whatever I’ve been working on, when I have something new to share.

Thanks again for your encouragement, and, especially, for your poetry!

Yes, Dhyan, cross-cultural relationships teach us much. This poem was actually from over a year ago, and I just stumbled upon it again, so I put it out here. I had been for 3 or 4 years with a “foreigner,” and I wrote this a few months after our relationship ended. This poem is also about the fact that he used to criticize me for wanting to be a writer, laughed at the hobby. As I said, we didn’t speak the same language. Understanding is important, but be careful to respect your own boundaries when you compromise in the name of cultural sensitivity.

i love and appreicate so much inter national, langauge, cultural realtionship. to me, they are so demending, always asking for more understanding, more relaxing, more watching of how i act, what i say, how i respond. they contain so much teaching, so many ways to grow and learn, of myself, of my culture, of my parents, of my love and feeelings, and thoughs, of life. and almost never boring.

Hi, Dhyan/fragments! The line in Spanish says, “And I thought that you would never understand (it).” (The ex-partner who inspired this was a native speaker of Spanish, so I was playing around with the disjuncture of communication.)
